The Accommodation Association Workplace Relations Team provides members with a range of advice and assistance regarding employment matters. In today’s constantly changing industrial landscape it is important that members are well informed and kept up to date on a variety of employment issues. In April 2009 the workplace ombudsman (Now Fair Work Ombudsman) advised that they had never prosecuted a member of an employer organisation (such as the Accommodation Association), stating that employer organisations provide sound advice to members and was the best ‘insurance policy’ against intervention by IR enforcement agencies.

Key News Update
The Accommodation Association members receive a regular workplace relations update via email as part of Key News Update (the former Workplace Relations Bulletin has now been incorporated in Key News Update). Key News Update keeps members informed of any updates in wages, changes to employment relations legislation and other workplace relations issues such as government inspectorate campaigns, training opportunities and the like. Lobbying
The Accommodation Association Workplace Relations Team ensures that members interests are advanced in applications before relevant government bodies and industrial commissions. In recent years the Accommodation Association has been granted Federal government funding for educational purposes to assist the accommodation industry understand and implement industrial relations changes from the WorkChoices amendments and, changes to Australian Workplace Agreement Making. The Accommodation Association has done, and continues to gain support from WorkCover NSW in providing relevant occupational health & safety information to our members. In the past, the Accommodation Association has lodged submissions in various State wage cases on a yearly basis and also to the Australian Fair Pay Commission for Federal wage cases. The Accommodation Association has most recently represented members before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission in the Award Modernisation process. The Accommodation Association is also represented in a number of working groups such as the HR Heads of Chain, the Hospitality Employer Relations Group and the WorkCover Industry Reference Group.
The Academy
By utilising their industry expertise and knowledge the Accommodation Association has created the Academy to ensure that your industry specific training needs are being met. The Academy has partnerships with training and hospitality experts. Whether you’re a large multinational hotel chain, a small country B & B, the Academy is the right vehicle for your training needs.
Training available will include a range of practical short courses and full traineeships, such as:
• Cert II, III or IV in Hospitality (Accommodation Services, Food and Beverage)
• Business II, III, IV or Diploma (Administration, Supervisory, Management and Leadership)
