Richard Munro
Chief Executive Officer

As an established industry leader, Richard is well known to key decision-makers and is an outstanding advocate for Australia’s accommodation sector. In his position of Chief Executive Officer with the Accommodation Association of Australia, Richard negotiates with all levels of Government on behalf of the accommodation sector and ensures that the Association provides a comprehensive suite of services, to ensure that the best outcomes are achieved for its members.  Richard's experience in major hotels – commencing his career as a food-and-beverage trainee and graduating to senior management – means he is in tune with the needs of the industry at all levels. Richard’s considerable experience includes his former position as Chairman of the Accommodation Division of the NSW Australian Hotels Association branch between 2007 and 2010 and General Manager of Star City Hotel & Apartments from 2001 to 2010. Richard is a former Director of Development Australia/New Zealand/Pacific with World Hotels and a former President of the Darling Harbour Business Association.

Laura Younger
Chief Operating Officer

Laura has a business background in membership organisations in Australia and Britain. Laura has a Master of Business administration from Griffith University and a Bachelor of Arts from University of Southern Queensland and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Laura is the Chair of the Surfers Paradise Alliance; Board member and Chair of the QTIC Associations Council and Deputy President of the Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce.


Nick Israel
Director of Membership

Nick's background is as an international hotelier and more recently, a hotel management consultant. He brings a wealth of accommodation industry experience, having worked across a number of roles in the industry including Deputy General Manager (GM) and Director of Marketing of the Nikko Darling Harbour, Area Sales and Marketing Director for Hilton Japan and Pacific, GM for the heritage-listed Grace Hotel Sydney, GM of the Millennium Hotel Sydney, GM of the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Singapore and GM of the Taj Exotica Mauritius.


Noel Teskey
Workplace Relations Consultant

Noel joined the Workplace Relations team in October 2006 and brought with him a wealth of management knowledge and experience in workplace relations. He assists members with advice on a wide range of workplace relations matters, including  award interpretations, workplace agreements, industrial relations, workplace health & safety, worker's compensation legislation, dispute resolution and employer’s superannuation guarantee obligations. Noel provides on-site consultations and compliance audits and also conducts seminars and workshops throughout Australia. Noel holds a business degree majoring in Accountancy and Marketing and a graduate certificate in HRM with a major in Industrial Relations.

Troy Schufft
The Academy Director
With over 15 years experience in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, Troy brings a wealth of experience to the AAoA Academy for the learning and development outcomes for the industry. Troy has vast experience in all sectors of the VET sector which enables the Academy to give sound advice and expertise to AAoA members on training and potential Government funding opportunities. Troy’s role is to work closely with the members to provide sound learning and development advice and connect recommended training provider from pre employment programs through to advanced Diploma’s. Based on Troy’s experience combined with industry consultation and engagement, he is able to drive quality training outcomes for members and employee’s through the Academy.
